Nursery brand eco rascals has been making waves across UK retail as a result of its new partnership with Retail Mama’s sales and marketing lead Kate Harding.
The sustainable and eco-friendly bamboo and silicone collection has been launched into UK retail with great success and is already stocked in a number of nursery specialists across the UK, including Baby B (Portsmouth) and Pitter Patter (Co Antrim). The range includes plates, bowls and spoons, with sippy cups launching this autumn.
“I’ve worked on a number of sustainability initiatives in the grocery industry such as working with NGO’s to help retailers on this subject,” said Kate. “Being relatively new to the nursery industry, I was surprised with the clear white space for innovation and initiatives to make a difference to customers and the planet… I hope this launch is just what retailers have been looking for within the weaning, baby essentials and eco categories in store. This brand is set to fly off of the shelves.”
“More parents are becoming aware of their carbon footprint,” said Molly Francis Coleman of BabyBirds stores, who stocks the line. “New parents want recyclable products, something that is sustainably sourced, with some environmental benefit. We’ve seen a decline in cheap throw-aways and a rise of good quality, sustainable products.”
Nursery stalwart Ian Davidson, who owns retailer Babylicious, agrees. “I have been challenging existing suppliers to give the trade more choice when it comes to sustainability of the products available to sell to new parents. I’m not the only eco warrior in the trade, so I know this is an opportunity for suppliers and newcomers like eco rascals to improve the supply chain for baby products and help retailers and parents make more sustainable and informed choices instore.”
