Classic title comes out on top in new study of 2,000 parents by ChannelMum.com.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been voted most-loved children’s book ever, adding to its existing status as the most read children’s book in the UK.
A study of 2,000 parents by ChannelMum.com – a parenting community and website – found that the classic story of a caterpillar that turns into a beautiful butterfly was the top children’s book that parents love to read to their kids.
With the brand approaching its 50th birthday in 2019, activity has been increasing at retail level and in terms of consumer products.
The World of Eric Carle’s UK licensing agent, Rocket Licensing, maximised The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s in-store presence for this year’s World Book Day with a range of dress-up outfits by Amscan.
The launch of the dress-up range into leading grocery channels and independents was supported by a successful social media campaign which saw social influencers, as well as singer and presenter Kimberley Walsh, sharing photographs of their children dressed up and enjoying the book.
Kimberley’s post of her son wearing the Amscan dress-up achieved nearly 6,000 likes on Instagram.
Charlie Donaldson, joint md of Rocket Licensing, said: “We never doubted it, and are delighted that The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been confirmed as the favourite with both parents and children nearly 50 years after its first publication.
“I strongly suspect that its winning combination of colourful, unique illustrations and engaging storyline will keep it a top choice for years to come.”
