Polarn O. Pyret wins Drapers Sustainable Fashion Award

The Swedish childrenswear brand was crowned winner of the prestigious Best Circularity Initiative.

The accolade was awarded for Polarn O. Pyret’s second-hand service, further confirming its outstanding sustainability efforts in successfully completing a circular fashion model.

The Best Circularity initiative recognises the brands which have made significant progress towards adopting a more circular business model in the past 12 months.

PO.P fought off huge competition from the likes of eBay, Barbour, M&S and Mulberry to win the award, and was praised for putting circularity so clearly at the core of its business and growth plans, as well as having the data to back it up.

Judges were also impressed at how the brand clearly evidenced that a second hand marketplace was resulting in fewer products being made.

An independent panel judged the awards, which are now in their fourth year. The judging was underpinned by the UN backed Sustainable Development Goals, which address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change and environmental degradation.

Jill Goeghegan, Drapers editor, commented: “We’re three years into what’s been deemed the critical decade in the fight against climate change. Forward-thinking fashion businesses know change is not an option and are embracing their responsibilities and ability to make a difference, despite challenging trading conditions. At Drapers, we’re proud to support and unite the industry, shining a spotlight on best practice, and celebrating the positive change happening in fashion retail.”

PO.P UK md Mats Nilsson, added: “Longevity has always been at the heart of our design ethos and our commitment to make clothes that last at least three children is one of our core missions, but with our now award-winning Second-Hand Service, we’re not only guaranteeing this but extending the life of each garment even further.

“PO.P Second Hand wouldn’t be possible without our partners GXO (formerly Clipper), the force behind the scenes hand checking and rejuvenating items ready for new owners, and even setting up a photography studio to allow us to resell the products on our website. We are so grateful to GXO for working alongside us to make this happen. We also thank Tern, who supply the app which allows our PO.P customers to easily trade in their used PO.P items.”
