“Parents will pay extra for longevity”: talking to Skip Hop’s Gemma Stokes

PreschoolNews.net spoke to Gemma Stokes, Skip Hop’s UK marketing executive, about the company’s latest developments in the bathing and changing market and what’s in store for 2019.

Tell us about your current offering in the bathing and changing market?

“Changing bags and accessories are at the core of Skip Hop’s business. In fact, we began trading with a single changing bag (the Duo Signature) and have since expanded our range of ‘must-have’ changing bags while also developing into other categories.”

How has the bathing and changing sector performed over the last 12 months?

“The demand for backpack-style changing bags is still a huge trend in this sector and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. Backpacks are extremely adaptable as their unisex design means they are popular for both mum and dads, plus having both hands free makes it easier to look after their baby. Because of this, we’ve expanded our changing bag backpack range to offer a variety of new styles, colourways and patterns. We also have something new coming in this sector in 2019 – so watch this space!”

What solutions are modern parents looking for across the bathing and changing sectors?

“Bathing baby can be both exciting and daunting, so many parents seek a safe and secure product that can help them bath their baby in a fuss-free and comfortable way. Our research has found that parents are willing to pay a little bit extra for a product that has longevity and can make their parenting journey easier in the long run.”

How does product on the market reflect current trends?

“Brands are focused on creating and launching new and innovative products to fulfill the changing needs and demands from parents. We feel that there is a shift away from the ‘baby baths’ of old, towards softer, more portable and comfortable bathing units that offer support. Our Moby Smart Sling 3-Stage Baby Bath Tub’s is a cheerful whale-shaped tub that grows with baby through three stages. The Smart Sling technology can lock into two ergonomic positions, while its dual layered mesh and comfort-edge construction securely cradles baby from head-to-toe for comfort and safety or can be removed completely.”
