Mothercare reveals top Christmas toys

Nursery and infant specialist retailer Mothercare has revealed its top ten must-have toys ahead of Christmas 2018.

The list – which is Mothercare’s first foray into the popular Top Ten Christmas Toy lists – includes a pink doll’s house, a retro kitchen diner and a ride-on that transforms into a scooter.

Prices range from £25 to £160, with a wide price bracket ensuring that there is domething available to suit all budgets.

Aimed at youngsters aged between 18 months and five years, the list marks a major shift from gadgets to classic wooden toys. It includes a mix of retro-inspired items (like the ELC’s Retro Diner Kitchen) as well as items that are ideal for babies’ development, like Vtech’s First Steps Baby Walker.

The full list includes:

  • ELC Retro Diner Kitchen
  • ELC Happyland Farm
  • Teddy’s Toy Box Luxury Playmat and Arch
  • ELC Big City Wooden Garage
  • ELC Deluxe Rosebud House
  • ELC Cash Register
  • Micro Scooter Mini Micro 3-in-1 Deluxe
  • Bosch Workbench
  • Vtech First Steps Baby Walker

A spokesperson said Mothercare had observed a shift towards more ‘imaginative’ toys – from toy kitchens to work benches, farmyard sets and dolls’ houses.

“There has most certainly been a switch in consumer demand away from just technology-based toys,” she said.

“We have gone back to incorporating more traditional play that really nurtures early child development, which sparks children’s imagination, cognition and early concentration skills,” she continued. “Our top toys for Christmas have been carefully selected to reflect consumer demand in our key toy categories.”

Hamleys, Very.co.uk and Argos have all released their top picks for Christmas over the last few weeks, ahead of the pre-Christmas shopping rush.
