Pushchair company iCandy has set its sights on further expansion overseas following its recent recognition for innovation in the prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, just two years after receiving one for international trade.
Managing director Martin Boyle said the recent win was ‘brilliant’, saying that; “It’s even better than it’s innovation this time round as that’s what our business is really about – creating things that are not the same as everybody else’s.”
He continued; “When I joined, anything that we did had to break the mould in the current market. We were the first major single to double pushchair manufacturer and the first one to push the Britishness of iCandy and our heritage. The innovation award is probably the most important we could ever go for.”
iCandy is currently preparing to launch a new product in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
“That’s a big coup for us because we’re obviously two well-known British brands,” Boyle said. “By joining the two creative design teams we have produce a true engineering one-off, four-wheeled-drive pushchair.”
Martin also announced that iCandy has hired a number of international representatives and will be focusing on overseas markets in the near future.
“Australia is a massive market for us,” he said. “So are Ireland and Germany. We’ve just gone into China and we hope to go into Russia very soon.”
The company is also about to head back into North America and will be looking at breaking South America in the future.
Martin also reveled that the company will have a ‘ground-breaking pushchair’ to show at Kind + Jugend in Cologne 2020. He described it as a ‘game changer’.
