Prizes were awarded in six categories – including baby/infant and preschool – at this week’s Spielwarenmesse ToyAward.
Revealed on day two (1 February) of the show, the accolades were judged by a 13-member international jury, who selected the winners from 524 submissions.
All the winning products impressed the jurors with their safety, potential for commercial success, play enjoyment, originality, production and quality, and with the comprehensibility of the product concept.
“The ToyAward represents an important seal of quality for toys among both retailers and consumers,” explained Christian Ulrich, spokesperson of the executive board at Spielwarenmesse eG.
In the Baby & Infant category (0-3), the winner was Haba with Basic Building Blocks – Multicoloured (pictured). “What was striking was the high quality and strong colours of the building blocks,” commented jury members.
In the Preschool category (3-6), the winner was Stix from OPPI, a building game with rotating joints made from hemispheres and silicone tubes. The jury’s judgement was: “The mix of wooden and silicon elements, their different shapes and the subdued modern colouring leave a strong impression.”
Other winners included Adventure Puzzle – The Light in the Enchanted Forest, Franckh-Kosmos (SchoolKids 6-10); Tetris & Pac Man Arcade in a Tin, Fizz Creations (Teen & Adults, 10+); Artist, Hoppstar (Startup); and Feber Recycle Eco House, Famosa by Giochi Preziosi (Sustainability).
All of the winners and other nominated products are in display in Hall 3A at the show (which runs until 3 February).
