Amy Childs, Celebrity Mum of the Year 2017 and Obaby brand ambassador talks awards, TOWIE, being a working mum and her favourite nursery furniture.
You were named Celebrity Mum of the Year in 2017 – what did that mean to you? It’s a lot to live up to!
“It was honestly one of the most amazing moments to be named Celebrity Mum of the Year in 2017. I was so happy to be nominated and then to go onto win was just the nicest feeling and I guess recognition that you’re doing something right. I do the best that I can being a working mum and would do anything for my babies. It’s something I’ll forever be grateful for and so happy and thankful people voted for me. I’m learning something new every day with the kids and having two under two isn’t the easiest, but I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Do you think that has helped the nursery industry see your name and endorsement in a different light to the TOWIE days?
“TOWIE was nearly nine years ago now and so much has changed. I’ll forever be grateful for my time on TOWIE and yes it was a great platform for me, but I’ve grown so much since then. I’ve had successful businesses and worked hard in everything I do and continue to do so. I now have two beautiful children and I’m fully immersed in mum life, while juggling work on top of that, gone are the glam days, every day. But I love it. I think people always naturally associate me with TOWIE but I’ve gone on to do so much more which for those who have followed my journey will know about and know I put my 100% into everything. I think winning Celebrity Mum of the Year as a great platform for me and reflects where I am now in life, a hard-working mum of two under two.”
You must have lots of nursery brands looking to work with you. Can you tell us why Obaby appealed to you?
“When you’re a new parent there’s so much choice it can be a bit overwhelming. It’s important for me that I work with a brand that I truly believe in and works for me and my babies. With Obaby, I actually already had their products before they approached me. When I was pregnant with Polly I read up on them lots and went to a few of the Baby Shows and just fell in love with their brand. They’re a trusted, reliable brand who are very much focused on listening to needs of parents and their children which is reflected in their nursery furniture. Which I think is great. So obviously when I was asked to be the face of the brand I was overjoyed and of course said yes.”
Do you really have Obaby furniture in your nursery? If so, what’s your favourite piece and why?
“Yes! I have had the Stamford Luxe Cotbed since Polly was born as I did my own research on the brand and fell in love with it. I also have the reclining glider chair and stool and the Stamford changing unit. My favourite piece has to be, the changing unit! Everyone should get it. It’s super compact, yet stylish, is a great storage saver and I love the fact you can just pop the changing mat on top and it fits so easily.”
What plans are in place for you to help promote Obaby collections and launches throughout the rest of 2019?
“So we’ve already had a pretty exciting start to the year, kicking it off with a bang. We shot the new range, The Madrid, which was a joy to help design and launch. We had a great show at The Baby Show a few weeks back and we have a few more lined up throughout the year. I’m working with the team on a few more exciting designs on the different collections which I can’t wait to show you all.”
