The latest figures from retail data analysts, Springboard, have shown that footfall in the UK has suffered this week.
Footfall at shops close to offices in central London was the hardest hit, with figures falling by almost 37% on Tuesday than on the same day in 2019. Across the whole of the UK, footfall fell by 26%.
High street footfall also suffered, with visitor numbers on Tuesday down by a third, compared to three years ago. Other retail locations were also hit, with shopping centre footfall falling by 28% and retail parks by 9%.
Diane Wehrle, insights director, Springboard, commented: “The impact on retail and hospitality businesses in what is a crucial trading time of the year, less than two weeks before Christmas, will undoubtedly be sever and could mean failure for some.”
