Execs from Golden Bear, Character Options, LEGO, Wow Stuff, Hasbro, Mattel and Rainbow Designs among the 500 delegates for two-day virtual event.
Executives from toy companies including Golden Bear, Hasbro, Mattel and Character Options were given plenty of food for thought during this week’s inaugural Sustainability in Licensing Conference.
The two-day event – which ran virtually on November 24-25 – attracted 500 delegates who listened in to 20 presentations from a wide range of speakers.
LEGO gave delegates an insight into its sustainable journey on Tuesday, with Tim Brooks, vp of environmental sustainability, and Sine Klitgaard Møller, licensing sustainability transformation lead, outlining some of the initiatives the company has been working on.
These include working on include zero waste to landfill by 2025; working towards a circular economy; plus the launch of LEGO Replay in at least three countries (a scheme which gives bricks to children in need of play). In addition, it has also been playing with paper packaging and consumers will start to see these coming through in 2021.
“We know that in order to develop the builds of tomorrow, it’s important to equip children with the necessary 21st century skills that they need to build a sustainable future… and we also know that in doing that, they expect us to play our part,” commented Tim.
In addition, George @ Asda and M&S gave updates on their sustainability activity and aims, while Kids Insights’ chief product officer, Jonathan Watson, highlighted key findings from its licensing industry survey on the steps being taken in the sustainable arena.
Helena Mansell-Stopher, conference director and founder of Products of Change (pictured), said that it had been “amazing” to watch the chat feed during SILC, with delegates interacting and answering questions.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what further conversations and collaborations will come about as a result of this inaugural SILC,” she commented.
Helena also confirmed that SILC will return to The British Library in July 2021, with more information to come in the following weeks.
